Maclaren buggies are as popular as ever

Filed under: Baby items — Alan @ 1:24 pm

The parenting lifestyle company, Maclaren, was founded by Owen Maclaren in the mid-1960s.

The company is based in the UK and the first product that it ever created was the Baby Buggy, which became famous because it was the first type of baby carrier that could fold up.

It meant that parents could carry their buggy in the car for the first time. Before the invention of this folding buggy, people only tended to use the devices in the home, simply because they were not portable enough.

Today, the company has numerous types of buggy and they remain very popular, because of their excellent design and stylish looks. The Quest model is one of the most popular and it has all the standard features that the company usually offer. One of the great benefits of buying a buggy from Maclaren is that it comes with a lifetime warranty.

The buggies that are made by the company are known for having many advantages; they are very safe and there is a special harness that secures the baby into the buggy. Furthermore, the seat in the device can easily be washed and the structure of the buggy is very strong.

There are two different models in the Quest range by Maclaren. The first is the Sport and it is designed to be particularly lightweight and carry a child who weighs up to 15 kilograms. There are four different positions the seat can be put in and there is a special viewing window that has UV protection on it.

The second model is called the Quest Mod and it can carry a child at the same weight but offers some additional features such as an extendable leg rest and additional insulation around the handles of the buggy. Both of these models come in an excellent range of colours.

Save Time by Buying Baby Products Online

Filed under: Baby items — admin @ 9:54 am

When you’re a parent, one of the many things you need to keep on top of is making sure you have enough baby products at any given time.

Running out of things like nappies, wipes, food, milk, and medicines can be a real headache.

With 101 tasks to keep on top of every day, it’s all too easy to run low and not realise until it’s too late.

One way around this is to order all the baby care products and accessories you’ll need for a couple of weeks or a month online.

As well as saving you time going to the shops it can also deliver a number of other benefits, including:

  • Convenience

Trips to the supermarket or even a local shop can turn into a bit of an expedition when you have a young child or children.

Loading up with everything you need and getting out the house can seem like it’s taking forever. There’s also the issue of whether or not everything will be in stock when you get there.

If you don’t have your own transport, the journey to a supermarket by bus can be even more inconvenient, especially if you only need a few baby products or accessories.

If you have access to a computer, you can quickly and easily order your baby care items online when you have a few spare minutes.

  • Cost savings

By ordering online you might also be able to save money on things for your baby compared to in-store prices.

Online baby products are often cheaper as they’re stored in a warehouse facility and then sent out. This means that many of  the overheads associated with a traditional shop don’t exist, and often the savings are passed on to you as the customer.

Even if you have to pay a delivery charge, you could still save money on baby products, especially if you’re buying in bulk.

  • Peace of mind

If you buy your baby care items online, you’ll be able to order them in larger quantities, which is especially useful if you rely on public transport.

By ordering the essentials once a month, for example, you can rest assured that you have plenty of supplies. Therefore you’re much less likely to run out of things like nappies, wipes and baby food just when you need them most.

Author Bio: Visit http://www.co-operativepharmacy.co.uk/ to view their range of baby care products and accessories and order online to benefit from the things mentioned above.

Say goodbye to stubborn baby stains

Filed under: Baby items — Alan @ 3:59 pm

If you have a baby in the house, you will be well used to their mishaps, and the stains these leave behind.

We all know that babies are adorable, but few of us are prepared for the volume of dirty laundry that they produce. From the day they arrive, there will be a never ending pile of little garments to be washed.

Here are a few tips to remove the stubborn stains that can be so difficult to remove from baby garments. The first step is simply common sense; get the garment off them as quick as possible and if there is any remains of whatever it is that is on the baby clothes, scrape them off before washing. Soak the item straight away in cold water as this will help to loosen a new stain before it soaks right into the fabric.

Now, depending on the kind of stain it is, there are different ways in which to treat it. If it is a protein stain from the likes of breast milk, formula, most food stains, leaky nappies or dribbles, a small amount of laundry enzyme cleaner and a small soft brush is the way to go. The enzyme in the cleaner will absorb the protein out of the stain, and any remaining remnants of the stain should lift out with a little Vanish in with the detergent.

Talcum powder is the ideal antidote to the greasy or oily stains you get from creams, baby oils and petroleum jelly. After around 20 minutes, scrape off the powder and pop it into the wash with a little stain remover and your usual detergent. Vinegar is the best thing for those stubborn stains from fruit and juices. A solution of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water should be applied to the stain, left for 10 minutes, then washed as normal.

When the washing machine cycle has finished, check over the items before they go in the tumble drier or on the line. If there is any remaining traces, these have to be rewashed as once they have dried they become almost impossible to shift. If they do remain, do the pre-treatment once more and then re-wash.

Bringing Up Baby

Filed under: Baby items — admin @ 1:25 pm

Whether this is your first or third child, the list of things to buy, do and sort out can be endless, even once baby has arrived. While we all want our children to have the very best, it can be a tall order, not to mention expensive. If you’re lucky, you’ll have inherited some hand-me-downs, which will ease some of the financial burden, but there are some things you’ll really want to buy new.

For those things, there are some names that you’ll become very familiar with. Mamas and Papas are in the premier league of baby suppliers who have long been catering to new parents. Their range features just about everything you and baby will need, from toys and clothes, to car seats and buggies.

But even once you’ve figured out exactly what you need for your new arrival, trawling the high street at nine months isn’t exactly a joy. Shopping for the essentials once your little one’s arrived is almost impossible. So if you’re not familiar with online shopping, now is probably a good time to start.

While the chance to get everything you need without ever leaving the sofa might be tempting enough, shopping online also means more competitive prices than the high street and the chance to spread payments.

Shopping online also offers a lot more choice than the high street, with more retailers and more stock from brands like Mamas and Papas, Ladybird and Fisher Price. And of course there’s no more negotiating trying to cram all your new purchases into the back of the car. You can get them delivered straight to your front door.

So if you’re frantically trying to work your way down the daunting to-do list, put the kettle on, put your feet up and start clicking.

App for mums-to-be from Dr Hilary Jones

Filed under: Baby items — Alan @ 2:22 am

Dr Hilary Jones, the nations favourite media GP has launched a new app that helped mums find everything that they need to know about being pregnant and the gorgeous baby, or babies, that they have growing inside them. The app, which is for the iPad and the iPhone gives the user exclusive access to 30 different scripts and videos that address all common concerns regarding conception,  having a healthy pregnancy and delivery

The app does away with all the medical jargon and the videos are split into 5 different sections; early pregnancy, a week by week guide to what is going on with your baby, concerns, complications and the actual birth itself.

Each is then subdivided into topics including conception, nutrition, smoking and drinking, your body week by week, ultrasound scans, coping with common problems, pre-eclampsia, and pain relief in labour.

Dads have their own dedicated video to help cope with any nerves and apprehension, and enable them to share the magic, and support their partners.

A “Bump Log” uses the iPhone and iPad 2 cameras to the full by creating a photo diary of the growing baby bump. A built-in guide frames the mum-to-be consistently, then stores photos on the App and the camera roll. IPad 1 users can import photos independently.

The App is supported by Vitabiotics Pregnacare, the leading prenatal multivitamin for mums-to-be.

Dr Hilary has helped deliver many babies over the years, and seen them grow into healthy happy kids. He also has five children of his own, and has been through all the trials, tribulations, excitement – and worries – that expecting a baby entails.

He said: “With 700,000 babies born in the UK alone every year, the most common questions I get are about pregnancy and children. This App is designed to provide mums, partners, friends and relations, with easily understood, practical knowledge, to help them enjoy a happy and healthy pregnancy.”

The Dr Hilary Jones’ App is available via: http://www.drhilaryjones.co.uk/ or directly from the App Store.

The perfect baby shower gift

Filed under: Baby items — Alan @ 5:25 am

Your first reaction on hearing that someone you know is going to have a baby is usually one of joy. This is often followed closely by a second reaction of panic as you realise that you will have to try and come up with the perfect baby shower gift.

Buying for an unborn baby is always a bit tricky; after all, you have no idea what sex the child will be or how the parents intend to raise their newborn. First time parents will probably have already found themselves swamped with well-meaning advice from friends and relatives by the time the baby shower comes around, so a parenting book which sets out the main points will probably be much appreciated.

On the other hand, some parents may be offended that you thought they needed a parenting book in the first place. If you don’t know the proud parents-to-be very well, it could be wiser to steer clear of anything which is seen as giving unwanted advice, including buying a helpful book.

Toys always seem like the perfect present for children, but most parents will find themselves with piles of stuffed animals by the time their precious bundle arrives and not many practical items. After all, there is plenty of time to buy the child fun gifts as they are growing older; presents at a baby shower are more about helping Mum and Dad.

As anyone who has had kids will tell you, you can never have enough outfits; babies are always needing changed, in more ways than one, and a plentiful supply of all-in-ones, t-shirts and other clothing essentials will always come in handy. It might be an idea to buy clothes a couple of sizes above newborn, just in case Mum has a larger baby. Even if she gives birth to a tiny boy or girl, the slightly bigger clothes will come in handy one day.

There are many more practical gifts that helpful friends and family can buy for new parents; a pram or pushchair is a big expense for Mum and Dad to deal with just as their weekly bills start to go up, while helping to kit out baby’s room with a new cot or even just a set of bedding will be a gift not soon forgotten. Baby monitors have become the latest must-have gadget for new parents, with some of the more expensive models even featuring tiny video cameras.

Not every friend can afford such extravagant gifts at a baby shower, but there are always the traditional options of a simple piece of jewellery or a decorated crockery set to fall back on, if you want to think of something that will be treasured.

Failing that, High Street stores are just as likely to be selling bath sets for babies as they are for adults these days, with baskets featuring bubble bath, shampoo and, of course, a couple of toys to keep children amused while they splash about in the tub.

gNappies offer parents a Hybrid Option

Filed under: Baby items — Alan @ 5:07 am

Most people aspire to being ecologically aware, and this is particularly pertinent for parents as their offspring rely on the future of our planet. The problem is that even though they are eco-aware in other areas, they are mostly reluctant to try and reduce their carbon footprint by using non-disposable nappies.

GNappies have now come up with a hybrid alternative which they say give parents the best of both worlds. This combines a  cloth nappy with a disposable liner and the loner is  simply thrown away and the cloth nappy washed and reused.

Working parents, or those which more than one baby, may still feel that this is time consuming and they would prefer to stick to their disposable nappies, but what many fail to realise is that by changing to these  biodegradable nappies they are having  positive effect on the environment.

Says Kim Graham-Nye, co-founder of gNappies, “Parents genuinely want to do better environmentally and, many are horrified to learn that disposable nappies account for a third of landfill. However, cloth nappies aren’t for everyone – which is why the hybrid option is a great solution. Changing nappies doesn’t have to be such as chore– and the availability of disposable and biodegradable refills means it’s even easier for parents to consider this as a viable option.”

Kim and her husband Jason introduced the hybrid nappy concept after discovering shocking facts about disposable nappies and their impact on the environment. Around 11 million disposable nappies enter UK landfill every day, each taking up to 500 years to decompose and accounting for a third of the world’s landfill.

gNappies gives the option to choose between disposable nappies or cloth nappies – with the disposable element being a gRefill – an insert which is home compostable or can be disposed of in the domestic waste. On a home compost, the gRefill only takes 50 – 100 days to biodegrade, compared with 500 years for a single disposable nappy.

gNappies come in a range of colours, patterns and sizes. The dedicated gNappies UK website - www.gnappies.co.uk – features all the products as well as gBundle starter packs.

Best baby blankets

Filed under: Baby items — Alan @ 8:48 am

There are many things that you will need to consider buying before your baby is born and one of these is the sort of bedding that you want to choose for your child. A recent innovation in the baby bedding market is the idea of a baby sleeping bag.

While these are popular with some parents, most are still choosing to use cotton cellular blankets as these allow parents to keep their baby at the right temperature in the easiest way. Using many layers of blankets means that they can simply be added or removed as needed. With a sleeping bag you do not have this flexibility and this is why it is not so popular with parents.

If your baby is going to be sleeping in a room that is quite cold then it can be a good idea to use a warm blanket than the traditional cotton type, there are many different fabrics that can be considered for colder temperatures.

Acrylic cellular blankets are better than cotton ones at keeping a child warm and can be a great option for parents with a cold house. Wool blankets are another good option for providing additional warm but these can be harder to wash, if you do choose will make sure that they can be washed in a machine where you are going to be washing a great many sheets by hand.

Sleeping bags do have significant advantages however and one of the most notable of these is that the baby cannot kick them off. A common problem the parents face when using blankets is that the baby will kick off in the night and this can mean they are too cold. A baby cannot put the blankets back over themselves, so parents will be woken to a babies cries and they will have to tuck them back in. If parents choose a sleeping bag this problem can be prevented.

There are sleeping bags designed for newborn babies but most parents prefer to not use them for the first few weeks. If the weather is particularly cold then extra sheets can be added to a sleeping bag to increase its warmth.

There is some safety advice to consider when using a sleeping bag for children and this comes from the Study of Infant Deaths. They say that you should never use a sleeping bag that has a hood or has a neck that is too small and this can mean the baby slips inside the sleeping bag and can suffocate. They also recommend against using wool blankets on top of the sleeping bag as this will cause your baby to overheat.

You should also make sure that you can make your chosen bag is appropriate for the temperature outside. The warmth a sleeping bag provides is measured in togs and you should have a higher top number for the colder months and a lower one in the summer

Duvets are something very popular with adults, but if you are using them with a baby it is best to wait until they are at least one-year-old. Babies will find a duvets are simply too hot for them and they can also restrict their movements. If you choose a duvet make sure that it is made out of only cotton.
